I stepped out into the air so
sharp it almost hurt
to breathe, looked down the street
to where the lamp shines a spotlight
in the road, and saw the smallest
snowflakes swirling in the glow.
It was then I realized
that crackling I heard
was not some remnant of ambient noise
but the sound of snow
falling on frozen grass.
Soon the snow will blanket the ground,
and icy snowflakes
will glitter in the moonlight.

It always rather imperfect to say
a new beginning,
but today that seems the right phrase
to describe the venture that
is starting.
Expanding into a new space,
beyond the poems of respite
into letters of friendship over at
